Rumour: Samsung Galaxy S3 set for April Release

Although it hasn’t even been announced yet, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is allegedly set for an April release.  This means that an announcement should be coming between now and then, leaving very little time in between.

Perhaps this is why Samsung decided to pull the announcement of the S3 out from the MWC so that it would have it’s own spotlight, rather than be lost in the noise of quad-core phone announcements from other manufacturers.  As for specs, there are still a lot of rumours floating around but we can expect to see at least a 1.5GHz quad-core processor.  Most likely the Exynos and an even larger screen at around 4.8 inches.  Some rumours claim an edge to edge design.  Expect the camera to be even better, but doubts are it can best the current camera king, the Nokia 808 PureView.

It seems Samsung is taking a page out of Apple’s marketing book and believes it deserves top billing at it’s own launch event.  Can Samsung quiet the buzz already building for Apple’s inevitable iPhone5 announcement?  Maybe for a little while at least.

Report: Google-Branded Tablet to Land in April

The long-awaited Android-running, Google-branded tablet reportedly arrives in April.

The device is aimed squarely at the dominant, and cheap, Amazon Kindle Fire, which is the world’s leading 7-inch Android device. The tablet, which former CEO Eric Schmidt first mentioned in December, also would advance Google’s plan to create a unified software and hardware ecosystem — just like that company in Cupertino.

Richard Shim, an analyst with DisplaySearch, told CNET the Google tablet is on track for production in April and is expected to cost $199. It will sport a 7-inch, 1280×800 display and run Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Those specs, if they pan out, one-up the Kindle Fire, which also costs $199 but has a 1024×600 display and runs on a modified version of Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

Should the tablet actually materialize, it would be yet another entry in Google’s sweeping hardware initiative. Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility will give the search company a ready-to-go hardware division. The tablet also would follow the rumored music-streaming entertainment device that would take advantage of the proposed Android@Home initiative announced at Google I/O.

This week The New York Times reported that Google is working on HUD glasses that could be formally announced by the end of the year.

Beyond its internal hardware initiatives, Google has partnered with HTC and Samsung for its Nexus-branded smartphones. The current crop of Nexus flagship phones were the first Android phones powered by Ice Cream Sandwich.

Indeed, all the rumored hardware and the Motorola Mobility acquisition suggest Google is positioning itself as a company that owns the entire “product stack,” from operating system to app ecosystem to hardware. This, of course, is the strategy employed by Google’s main rival in the mobile market, Apple.

Should Google continue down this path, it may be the next company, to “own the whole widget,” as Steve Jobs would say.

Nokia Lumia 900 to be released in Europe on April 9th. Lumia 610 on June 11th.

Nokia has presented at the MWC 2012 the Nokia Lumia 900 version for Europe as well the newest and most affordable member of their Windows Phone 7 phone family, the Lumia 610. The biggest question left open was the release date of these phones. Today, Mobilefun site had advanced with these dates.

The Lumia 900 is, according with this site, to be released on the April 9th. The top-end WP7 by Nokia, featuring a 1.4 Ghz processor, stands out from the other models essentially by his a 4.3? display and front-face camera. One curious detail is also, according with the same source, that this phone will arrive with WP7 Tango OS version.

The Nokia Lumia 610, the first 256 Mb RAM phone operating with a WP7 OS, should arrive only on June 11th and it will be destined mainly to youngsters due to his lower price tag that is expected to be 189 Euros before taxes.
